Alexander Graham Bell is a famous inventor who is well known for his invention of the telephone. Born in Scotland in 1847, Bell came from a family influenced by sound. He and his father would be referred to today as Speech Therapists. His mother was a gifted pianist without the ability to hear the music herself. The Bell family specialized in teaching the Deaf to speak. Bell took the skills to Boston where he was the professor at a school for the deaf. This is where he met his wife whom he tutored. It was not until after some time passed when their courtship began.

Bell’s interests were vast leading to numerous other patented inventions. A few inventions Bell was responsible for are the photophone, hydrofoil, metal detector, and the Tetrahedral kite. Bell was meticulous in documenting his experiments. The tetrahedral kite was created and tested in various shapes and sizes using the small pyramid shaped cells. The kites were created to sizes so immense that they could fit several people inside of them. Bell used many materials in his models and kites; red silk, cloth, aluminum, and hairpins are a few items he listed in this journal. The kites took flight propelled by a person as well as by boat, pulling these geometric masterpieces into the air.
