We start with a thick 67 lb cover page for most of our books. This paper is matte with a slight texture to it.
We pre-crease the paper, 1 cm in along the binding edge. The make our books flexible while still using a thicker paper.
: After the book is printed and trimmed to the correct size, the pages are hand sewn using the over sewn method
The book block is glued and layered with mull cloth. This makes a very strong and stiff blinding.
.
:We cut our leather covers from full cow hides, hand selected for color and texture.
:This is the leather after the cutting and before any tooling is done.
: The leather is cleaned up around the edges, marked with chalk to the correct size and hammered into shape.
:The Tooling is marked with chalk and placed.
:After the tooling of the leather is done.
:The book and the leather cover are combined, the leather cover is cut and the leather straps are pulled through.
:The long leather strap is trimmed under and folded over with a final stitch and leather glue.
Hardcover books are made with a 2-3 oz cow or lamb skin hide.
